Chris Hayes explains it all for you:
Here, then, is where we hit the heart of the conflict. Equilibrium, with its sparkling promise of calm, is the promise of functioning markets. In Samuelson’s view, that equilibrium can be counted on so long as the government doesn’t interfere, artificially pushing government money. Indeed, under this view recession, perhaps even depression, are crucially part of that equilibrium. That is to say, suffering is necessary for a functioning capitalist economy.
Just read the whole thing.
I’ll be busy sharpening my pitchfork.

commieatheist,
i love your blog.actually even better when i learned you were 52! it explains the gravitas. for a commieatheist you sure got what i’d call soul, but i promise to never say it again. i hope i haven’t offended you. i’m really new to all this too & out of work & married to the enemy-a rabid repug.
Thanks very much Sharon, and no, I’m not offended. In fact I’m a big fan of soul – Otis Redding is my main man. Love that sweet soul music.
Being married to someone who doesn’t share your outlook can be really tough. I’ve been lucky enough to be married for 20 years to a woman who feels pretty much the same way as I do in matters of politics and religion, although she does think I spend way too much time dwelling on them. I hope you have some friends (both online and off) that are of like mind and that can provide you some support.
